SUBTERRANEAN STREET SOCIETY

ONSTAGE: 00:30

January 1st 2015 street musician Louis Puggaard Müller packed his guitar, said goodbye to his hometown Copenhagen and headed for a new life in Amsterdam. His musical upbringing as a street musician has been a long education where every performance is a final exam, where the sensors of the people always push one to perform at the highest level. If you wanna grab their attention you have to deliver! Only after a few months of playing on the Amsterdam streets he scored an A+ and was invited by National Dutch TV program PAUW to come and sing live in their studio.
Three summers in a row Louis travelled with his former band Camp Neverland all across Europe. Here they were living out their hobo dreams of surviving day to day on donations they could gather from their street gigs. It was on these trips he found inspiration for the songs that found their way onto his debut album ¨I’ll leave me before you do¨. The album was released on the 16th of September 2016 under his new band name Subterranean Street Society. A band that quickly evolved into a trio, bringing New Zealand drummer Ryan Wilson and Dutch bass player Ivo Schot to the community.
They take the raw & unexpected energy from the streets and bring it onto the stages all around the world. In 2017 they already took the first step by promoting the album with tours in Holland and Denmark. Inbetween touring the band has been in the studio recording their 2nd album, set for release by the end of 2018. Their first single “SO SORRY” will be out in May and yet again the band will hit the road to promote the single and perform the upcoming album.
With steel resonator guitars, hollow body basses and rumbling Rock n’ Roll drums they attack the audience with an uncompromising sound. On top of cassette tape drones, melodic feedback and thunderlike basslines, you hear a raspy voice that has been described as sounding like “mahogany and leather”, a voice telling stories of romantic remedies, lazy lovers and drifting characters struggling to choose the right direction. The songs move beyond the grey zone of genres and even though comparisons are made to bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Radiohead and Paolo Nutini there is really only one label that you can always put on Subterranean Street Society and that is : “Heartfelt”.
