The Mad Ferret Band are a Scottish duo, known on the folk scene for their hard hitting blend of traditional and contemporary Folk music. Their lively, energetic performances are packed with “blisteringly fast Mandolin solos”, tight harmonies, driving Cajon beats and earth-moving Guitar sounds. The influence from both Scottish and Irish folk music has helped shape their unique sound.
The Duo features Chris Woods on Mandolin, Guitar and Vocals and Sandy Stirton on Guitar, Cajon and Vocals.
Based in Perth, Scotland they are an extremely hard working band having played an average of 180 gigs a year across the U.K. and Europe. Since forming in 2012 they have been honing their music by playing the pub and small venue scene. They look to be even busier in 2015, with more festival performances and European tours on the way.

"the best in new roots talent!" Bruce Macgregor, BBC Radio Scotland presenter, director of Northern Roots Festival
"Mad Ferret are the best band on the circuit" Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh
On dark nights in northern cities, where crowds gather underground, not knowing why the atmosphere is tense and bereft of oxygen, the shamanic singer and his totemic band of intergalactic beat drifters appear and are gone, leaving behind them only a post-orgasmic sense of calm and hazy pleasure. Did that really happen? Did a masked shaman really leap from an afro of bass, forcing even white people to dance to his every word and sway?! They convert many who encounter them to their raving ways. The converted know there is a better kind of music out there: one of ecstatic rhythms and primal groove. There is no longer any need for chords and choruses… there is no longer any need for love songs or sad songs, for this music transcends Earthly emotion. The followers of the masked shaman know the way to the future. The followers are growing…
The Banjo Lounge 4
The Banjo Lounge 4 are an Edinburgh-based all acoustic crate digging mash-ups band delivering classics in an original and imaginative packaging. Once described as ‘Hayseed Dixie on speed with a serious chunk of Funk!’, they have been making fans wherever they play. Since their inception in 2007, their shows have included many gigs up and down the country and beyond including festivals, awards ceremonies for Theatre Scotland, the 2014 Ryder Cup end party, Edinburgh Film Festival wrap parties, Edinburgh Book Festival 2013 launch party, gigs for Visit Scotland, Fynefest, List Magazine's annual Festival Party, Club Vegas and The World Famous Speigeltent along with over 400 other shows from the old Marquee Club in Soho, London, to a cocktail boat on Loch Lomond and a pool party in Ibiza! They even played a private gig for the cast of BBC's Eastenders! With 5 string banjo, acoustic guitar, double bass and stripped down drum-kit, the band also features 3 part harmonies. Some really do say that their bluegrass-funk interpretations are better than the originals. Their eclectic and diverse blend of mash-ups include tunes by Louis Prima, Radiohead, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Metalica, Panjabi MC’s Knightrider remix of ‘Mundian To Bach Ke’, a bluegrass souped version of Dizzy Rascal’s ‘Dance Wiv Me’, New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’, ‘Jump Around’ by House of Pain, Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love', a high octane version of Duran Duran’s ‘Girls on Film’, a stylophone-powered version of The Final Countdown, The Beastie Boys’ ‘Intergalactic’, Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’, and Nelly’s bluegrass-ed ‘Hot In Herre’. Check our 'Repertoire' Menu for full listings! We are also currently recording our first album - probably to be titled 'The Band That TIme Forgot'.
Andy Gunn learnt to play from listening to the old blues masters such as Lightnin' Hopkins and Muddy Waters after tracing the sound back from the rock music he was originally into as a teenager...immersed in this rich musical heritage he was fortunate enough to hit the big time and signed a worldwide recording contract with Pointblank, Virgin's blues label, with his school band Jumpin' The Gunn. Travelling to Memphis, he rubbed shoulders and exchanged riffs with Al Green’s rhythm section and Pops Staples to name a few... After that, back in Britain he then released an album with Provogue and played alongside many acts including The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, with members of Gary Moore's Midnight Blues Band, with Martin Stephenson and with harp player Errol Linton. Personal highlights for Andy would be when he supported Buddy Guy at the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, jammed with Albert Collins in London or backing up Geno Washington at the Tartan Heart Festival. He has 4 self produced albums entitled “Flip Flop Kinetics”, “Bonar Bridge Sessions”, "Regional Variations" and "Miracle Of Healing" which was co-produced with Martin Stephenson for the Barbaraville label. They are a great mix of blues, rock and folk music and have a sound brimming with soul and originality. A few years back he went on a busman's holiday across the states where he met and jammed with many great musicians in the big music centers such as New York, Chicago, Memphis, Nashville and New Orleans... sparking the comment "Damn, I didn't know they picked cotton in Scotland!".. all the time, soaking up the inspiration and walking the avenues of his musical heroes...
